THE DANISH HOME is located in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, thirty-five miles north of New York City. The Danish Home is an independent retirement residence located on a historic estate. The classical half-timbered stone building, complete with courtyard, gazebos, vegetable garden and orchard, is home for up to 18 retired adults.
Licensed by the New York State Department of Health, the Danish Home is an Adult Care Facility (ACF). Residents enjoy three home-cooked meals a day, assistance with medications, housekeeping and a daily activity program. Local, international and intergenerational socialization occurs on a weekly basis.
At 103 years young, the Danish Home is in good health and spirit. The Danish Home is fortunate to have a committed Board of Directors and a truly caring and devoted staff, dedicated to preserving Danish traditions and enhancing the quality of life of its residents.
The Danish Home for the Aged began in New York City in 1906, for the purpose of housing and caring for elderly Danes. The Danish Home moved to its present location, in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, in 1954. Formerly the home of financier J.M. Kaplan, the picturesque buildings were modeled after the farmsteads of Europe.
For over a century, the Danish Home has built upon the Danish tradition of respectful care and hospitality to older adults. A state-licensed Adult Care Facility (ACF), we provide seniors with a safe and affordable place to live, where they enjoy the fellowship of other residents in a cheerful, dynamic setting.
The Home is situated on 40 acres of rolling hills, forest and orchard. The grounds include outbuildings, barns, outdoor dining areas, fair grounds, organic vegetable gardens, orchards and hiking trails, all of which are available to the residents. Organized daily activities fill up the calendar and provide fun events to stimulate and engage the resident population.
